AWAN

Aboriginal Women's Advisory Network

When we rise, we all rise together.

"Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children have a right to a life that is free from violence and abuse."

The NSW Aboriginal Women's Advisory Network (AWAN) is led by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. We are state-wide Network and the only Aboriginal Women’s Advisory Network in Australia.

AWAN was established in 2022 to support Closing the Gap Target 13 initiatives to reduce family violence and abuse against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children. We are auspiced by Wirringa Baiya Aboriginal Women’s Legal Centre, the NSW state-wide community legal centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, children and youth, which has been operating since 1997.

AWAN's mission is to improve the safety and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children.

AWAN is an advocacy body for the rights and interests of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children. Our guiding principle is When we rise, we all rise together.
